About Us

Opened in 2012, the Student Technology Center is a place where technology and students meet. The STC consists of the gaming lounge, equipment rental, team meeting room, and the Digital Media Lab. We are located on the 3rd floor of the Arkansas Union before the food court. Once you walk through big glass doors, you’re here.

 Gaming Lounge

Within the gaming lounge, we have 7 console gaming stations, 18 PC Alienware gaming computers, and over 50 different video games for nearly every relevant console. Those consoles are: PS3, PS4, XBOX 360, XBOX One, and Wii. We are consistently adding to popular and in-demand games and consoles to the lounge so students don’t have to buy them. When you check out a console station, you (along with your friends) have that particular station for up to 5 hours at a time. Our consoles are also nearly all connected to the UARK internet, so you can game online with your internet buddies. Visit the the PS4, PS3, XBOX 360, and XBOX One pages to see what games we have available for each console.

Equipment Rental

We offer a great variety of equipment available for you to check out. Depending on the equipment and availability, you may check out some items for up to 3 days at a time. Our equipment is very diverse, from cameras to laptops to even portable recording studios. The Student Technology Center is more than happy to help you check out or reserve the item and to demonstrate how to successfully use the piece of equipment that you are checking out. For an extensive list of the current equipment that we are checking out to students, please visit the equipment page on this website.

Team Meeting Room

Located in the STC, the team meeting room is an excellent space to have host an RSO meeting or even just have a place to study with your friends. The team meeting room has a dry erase board to brainstorm on, as well as a tv to connect your laptop to to show presentations. Visit the STC or the Reserve It page to reserve the team meeting room for up to a few weeks in advance.

Digital Media Lab

The digital media lab is a valuable resource for the students at the University of Arkansas. We are located in the Student Technology Center past the glass doors.

It consists of:

  • 6 3D image project work stations
  • 3 Mac audio project work stations
  • 3 Digital project work stations
  • 4 Scanning stations
  • 2 Mac video project work stations
  • 3 PC video project work stations
  • 2 group study rooms\recording studios
  • 2 individual study rooms
  • 8 General Access Computers

Each recording studio has a variety of audio editing software, a keyboard, a programmable launch pad, and a USB hub. You may check out a variety of equipment for the studio from the desk in the DML such as headphones, microphones, microphone stands, and more.

Each project work station has a variety of relevant and useful software including, but not exclusive to the adobe creative cloud suite, microsoft office 365, notepad++, and more. It is worth noting that the this is not a general access lab for general use, though general access computers with keyboards are in the back against the wall. We recommend that if you are just studying or printing something off, for you to use those rather than the special project machines. If you have a special project and need to use one of the project machines, bring your ID to the lab operator in the digital media lab and the lab operator will check you out a key board for up to 5 hours.¬†DO NOT check out a keyboard from the front desk in the gaming lounge and use it in the digital media lab as those are for gaming use only. If a lab operator or supervisor notices that you are not using a project machine for it’s intended use and someone else needs it for that reason, we reserve the right to move you to a different machine or send you out of the DML all together.
